Instructional (3rd Graders)

All 3rd Graders play in the Instructional Division. Instructional Division is a kid-pitch league (umpires and/or coaches no longer pitch) and players will learn new baseball concepts, such as stealing bases.

Teams will play an average of two games per week, on weeknights (Mon-Thurs) and/or Saturdays, and practice on Sunday afternoons. All players will be asked to attend an indoor evaluation session at GBN in February. This is not a tryout, and there are no cuts. The purpose of this session is for League Directors to assess players’ skill levels for creating equal-strength teams. Friend requests cannot be honored, but Directors try to ensure that each player is placed on a team with a few schoolmates.

BAT RULES: Northbrook Baseball provides metal bats to all teams for players to use in games and at practices. Players may not use their own personal metal or composite bats. Players are allowed to use a personal wood bat. (These bat rules apply to the Spring House League Instructional Division. Different rules apply in travel leagues and summer house leagues.)

Instructional Division Volunteer Directors: Scott Weiner and Michael Grossman

Minors (4th Graders)

All 4th Graders play in the Minors Division. Teams will play an average of two games per week, on weeknights (Mon-Thurs) and/or Saturdays, and practice on Sundays. All players will be asked to attend an indoor evaluation session at GBN in February. This is not a tryout, and there are no cuts. Teams are formed by draft.

Majors (5th & 6th Graders)

5th and 6th Graders play together in the Majors Division. Majors players will learn advanced baseball concepts, such as lead offs, pickoff plays, and dropped third strikes. Teams will play an average of two games per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and/or Saturdays, and practice on Sunday afternoons. All players will be asked to attend an indoor evaluation session at GBN in February. This is not a tryout, and there are no cuts. Teams are formed by draft.

Depending on enrollment, Majors teams may play in the CSYBA Spring Bronco League, an association of house-level teams from nearby suburbs, such as Deerfield, Highland Park, and Vernon Hills.

BAT RULES: Players may use any bat with a USA Baseball stamp on it (see image below). The USA Baseball stamp was established to certify a “wood-like performance standard for youth baseball bats.” You can read more about it HERE. Players may also use a personal wood bat. Players may not use USSSA or BBCOR bats. (These bat rules apply to the Spring House League Majors Division. Different rules apply in travel leagues.)
