COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT

Northbrook Baseball’s purpose is to create a positive baseball experience for all of our players, while promoting the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.

As a Head Coach or Assistant Coach, I will conduct myself at all times in a way that is consistent with and promotes the purpose and values of Northbrook Baseball, including:

        • Coaches will endeavor to create a positive and fun environment for their players.
        • Coaches must be educators. As a Feeder program, Northbrook baseball prioritizes the development of player skills and knowledge. While winning can be consistent with the goal of creating a “fun” environment, a winning “at all cost” approach often neglects player development. Coaches are expected to find the right balance between these factors given the circumstances of each team.
        • Coaches will endeavor to help players develop their own internal motivation and critical self-observation skills.
        • Coaches must remember that they are in a position of influence; Coaches’ influence goes beyond teaching specific sports techniques; they play a crucial role in shaping character, values, and life skills.  Therefore, Coaches must act as positive role models and prioritize the well-being of their players. Coaches must show emotional maturity by controlling their anger and never using obscene language or gestures.
        • Only the Head Coach will discuss a disputed call with an umpire. Those discussions will be conducted in a respectful manner.
        • Coaches must treat everyone fairly and with respect. They should set the highest standard for others to follow.
        • Coaches must always put player safety and health first and be prepared to deal with any unsafe situations or player conduct.
        • Coaches will endeavor to continue to develop their skills as a coach.
        • Coaches must honor the game and help players and parents to appreciate the sport and the life lessons that can be gained from the sport.
        • Coaches will refrain from using tobacco, vaping products, or alcohol at practices or games; Coaches must never show up to a practice or game under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
        • Coaches will foster the values of community baseball through open communication with parents. Of course, parents are also expected to be respectful of the contributions of our volunteer Coaches.

Northbrook Baseball appreciates and values the contributions of all of our volunteer Coaches. We believe that this Code of Conduct will help foster a positive environment that will make it easier for our Coaches to have a positive impact on our players, and a fun season.

I have read and understand the above Code of Conduct and agree to follow its guidelines at all league activities. I understand that if I do not follow this Code of Conduct, (i) I may be asked to leave the league activity (such as a game or practice); or (ii) I could be temporarily suspended from coaching a game or a practice, or both; or (ii) I could be forced to give up my coaching position.

[Coaches’ Acceptance and Agreement with this Code of Conduct is kept on file via email]
